Our Statue of Liberty says, “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses, yearning to breathe free …”
This landmark and icon of America and our citizenry for all immigrants has been in place since France presented it to the American people in 1886. Now this symbol of the United States of America must be dismantled and returned to France, as it no longer applies to this country.
The treatment of immigrants since this new administration took charge is shameful. How we are behaving toward the people who have built this country into what it is today dishonors us and is the humiliation of our land.
Eleanor Roosevelt said, “In the end … we are ‘one world,’ and that which injures any one of us, injures all of us.” What has become of the Golden Rule, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you”?
While I am on the subject of changes, Wyoming needs to come up with a new state motto. Equality State no longer applies to our beautiful state. Wyoming has the largest gender wage gap in the United States. Wyoming women earn 64.4 cents for each dollar a man earns in our state. Also, Wyoming ranks last of all 50 states for female representation in state legislatures.
The rudeness and the hatred rampant in our government at this time is truly the shame, humiliation and dishonor of our country at this point in our history.
I love my country and my native state. It greatly pains me to have to say these things need to be changed because they no longer apply to our country and to the state of Wyoming.
