A Saturday morning crash near Albany resulted in one death and left another injured.
The accident occurred around 9 a.m. in the westbound lanes of Interstate 80 near milepost 323 when a tractor trailer crashed into a compact SUV that had stopped on the road due to traffic. That SUV was slammed into a tractor trailer in front of it, which had also stopped due to traffic on the road.
The tractor trailer that struck the SUV was subsequently hit by another tractor trailer.
The driver of the SUV, Brook Williams, 48, of Salt Lake City died from his injuries at the scene of the crash. The car’s passenger, Melanie Williams, 48, of Salt Lake City was transported to Ivinson Memorial Hospital for injuries sustained during the crash. Both were wearing seatbelts.
The driver of the tractor trailer that struck the SUV has been identified as Noslen Castillo, 38, and the driver who struck Castillo’s truck has been identified as Taseusz Potkaj, 64.
None of the tractor trailer drivers or the trucks’ passengers were injured in the accident.
According to the Wyoming Highway Patrol, driving too fast for the winter road conditions is being investigated on the part of Castillo and Potkaj as a contributing factor to the crash. The road conditions were slick with black ice and blowing snow. There was little to no visibility at the time of the crash.
