Donald Gifford Stoen, 93, beloved husband, dad and papa, passed away July 2 in Cheyenne.
Born April 22, 1926, in rural Gary, Minn., he spent his childhood and early adult life farming outside Gary.
Donald served in Germany in the U.S. Army’s 6th Armored Cavalry Regiment during the Korean Conflict. He taught English and creative writing at Cheyenne East High School and retired from Laramie County School District 1. Don was a member of the National Education Association and the Wyoming Chapter of the NEA.
Donald was a prolific writer and poet who loved language and literature. Consummate tinkerer, he loved the challenge of puzzles and the feeling of satisfaction when he arrived at a solution.
Donald is survived by his wife of 63 years, Aina Stoen; children, Dalen Stoen (Denise), Cindy Pfeifer, Becky Tomjack (John), Jeff Stoen (Clara) and Kim Ross (Ryan); 17 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gifford and Anna Stoen; and sister, Ardis Thronson.
Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Ascension Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association.
